Angelo Anthony Petrulli was lovingly known as Sonny. He passed away at the age of 93 on May 15th, 2023 at 7:45 AM. He resided in Bethpage, NY. He was born April 7th, 1930 to Matteo and Ruth. He lived in Brooklyn with his parents, older Sister Rosie and younger brother Michael. He is survived by his spouse of 64 years, Phyllis Petrulli, and their three children, Matthew, Michele and Donna, as well as his three grandchildren Robert, Stephanie, and Alexandra. He also has one great grandchild. Mila. Sonny completed his high school education and served in the army from 1951 to 1953. He was very proud of the time he served and often shared many memories from the Korean war. He later, took the civil service exam and worked as an auto mechanic for the New York City Department of Health. In addition to working hard to support his family, he enjoyed taking them on driving vacations, especially to Disney, his favorite spot. He continued traveling with his wife well into his retired life visiting most of the United States by train or coach bus, and occasionally by plane. Sonny’s hobbies were many, including gardening and jarring tomato sauce, making wine, designing clocks, building a colored television, and constructing wood projects, including all his whirligigs that were in his back yard. He was very mechanical and in his spare time worked on repairing and maintaining his own car, including rebuilding a transmission! It is a whole bunch of simple things that made up Sonny. He was a caring and quiet person. He was extremely creative and meticulous working on his projects. He has been a great role model to the family and a greatly respected husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved and supported his family. He is already missed, extremely loved, and never will be forgotten. May God smile on him and grant him His grace always. Wake services are being held on May 18, 2023 at 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Hawkins and Davis Funeral Home in Smithtown. On May 19th at 11:30AM, a final blessing will be made at the funeral home and then we will go directly to his last resting place at Calverton National Cemetery arriving for 1PM. Please come celebrate a life well lived, a man very cherished by all.
