Debra Canning

August 19, 1955 ~ February 21, 2023
Debra Ann Canning (née Smith) of Smithtown, New York passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at the age of 67. She was surrounded by her family after courageously battling many health conditions.
After having twins, Debbie was a brilliant stay-at-home mom, as well as an active member of the Mothers of Twins Club. She was very involved in school functions, and lead the Girl Scout Troop for many years. The Smithtown School District was subsequently lucky to gain Debbie as an employee in several capacities. She enjoyed her second career before retiring in 2017 to spend time with her granddaughters and multitude of friends. We know she is enjoying her glass of Pinot Grigio in heaven, watching over us all and continuing to send her insightful advice.
Debbie is predeceased by her beloved parents, Joan and John Smith. She is survived by her devoted husband John, daughters Janine Bacarella (Bryan) and Michelle Furco (Eric), four beautiful granddaughters Kiera, Danielle, Joanna and Melanie, brother Glenn (Kathy), and several sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of the flowers, please consider making a donation to the John Ritter Foundation.
I am so sorry for your loss. I will always remember all the wonderful times Deb and I had over the past 30 years. My memories of us together at Nesconset were priceless. We would discuss many topics daily mostly about our kids and loved having our wine together. I know how much she loved her family!
She will truly be missed. I am so sorry I can’t be there as I am in Florida. If okay I would like to stop by one day. Again, so sorry and I will pray for your family .
I was so very sorry to hear of your loss actually all of our losses! She was an amazing person always smiling, always positive and always sharing stories of her grandchildren which she loved so much! Working with Debbie was so much fun and she had a wonderful relationship with everyone in the school. We were so happy when she retired to spend time with her family. She fought a good fight but loved when the “girls” visited. She will be loved forever and never forgotten. All your memories will live on forever. She is at peace now with no more struggles. Love Maureen
