Stephen A. Markgraf

Stephen A. Markgraf, age 71, died on February 1, 2026.

Born on January 18, 1955, in the Bronx, New York, Stephen was the son of Joseph and Margaret Markgraf. Shortly thereafter, his family relocated to Long Island, where he spent his life and established both his family and career.

Stephen was the owner of Hawkins & Davis Funeral Home, which he operated for more than 30 years. His career in funeral service reflected both technical expertise and long-term dedication to the profession. In addition to his work at the funeral home, he held leadership roles as Past President of the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce, the Smithtown Rotary Club, and the Nassau Suffolk Funeral Directors Association.

He pursued his professional training at SUNY Farmingdale, where he studied funeral directing, and later earned a business degree from SUNY Brockport, an education that supported both his practice and ownership responsibilities.

Outside of work, Stephen enjoyed surfing, boating, and ice hockey, interests he maintained throughout his adult life.

Stephen is survived by his wife, Laurie; his children, Sharon and Scott; his brother, Bruce; and many nieces and nephews.
