Charles Walters
June 6, 1933 ~ November 15, 2025
Charlie was a man of deep faith who thanked God every day for the many blessings in his life, the greatest of which was his family. He and his beloved wife, Jean, created a loving home for their four children. They shared their values of love and compassion, teaching their children the importance of family and of lending a helping hand. He taught them to persevere through difficult times, especially when rooting for the Mets. Charlie was a hard working man, who was proud to provide for his family. He commuted from Deer Park to Brooklyn five days a week, working the night shift for many years in order to make ends meet. This difficult schedule didn’t stop him from living a life of joy with his family, often through trips to the beach, to the Bronx Zoo and playing baseball at the town field with his sons and their friends. When the family unfortunately lost Jean at the young age of 51, they relied on each other, God, and the lessons of love instilled by Charlie and Jean. Several years later, Charlie was reacquainted with a family friend named Carol and they married. Charlie welcomed Carol’s children and grandchildren into his heart and loved them as his own. When his children (and grandchildren) married, he embraced their spouses into the family and prayed for them as much as he prayed for the rest of his family. Charlie got the most joy playing with all his grandchildren, teaching them how to play cards and Wiffle ball. He was always available to baby-sit, introducing his grandchildren to open faced grilled cheeses and the Price is Right. He and Carol enjoyed an active social life in the Windmill Gates community, attending the many trips and parties. Charlie especially loved the bowling league and playing pool, poker and Bingo with his friends. When he lost Carol, he again demonstrated the strength to carry on with the help of God and the love of his family. He continued to live with joy and gratitude for the wonderful life he had created with his family. The lessons and values he instilled in his family will never be forgotten by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
