Jasmin Maureen Cameron Nee Cunningham, also popularly called Jas or the chic Jazz or Jazzy after her
Instagram moniker, was a strong, reserved, beautiful, intelligent, loving, deeply spiritual person who
was blessed with a wonderful son, family and friends whom she loved devotedly and who loved her
equally in return. During her life she played numerous roles, many times concurrently, as a faithful wife,
a doting mother and grandmother, a loyal sister, a loving auntie and an industrious career woman and
she lived a life of integrity, kindness and purpose until she was given her wings and flew home to be
with the Lord on October 12 th 2025.
Jas was born on February 10 th 1943 in Kingston Jamaica to parents Aston FitzHerbert and Etta Mae
Cunningham. She was the second of nine children – Pat, Jasmin, Thelma, Livingston, Maurice, Glen,
John, Jewel and Andrew. As an integral part of this large household, she was a very responsible elder
sister and was always known to be very mature beyond her years.
Growing up, Jasmin attended Alpha Academy High School for Girls in Kingston. She was a very bright
student and graduated with a Senior Cambridge Certificate. Above everything, she loved reading as
books were her solace and her passion. She read a wide variety of books although her favorite genres
were romantic novels and mystery novels.
In 1964 after graduating high school, Jasmin migrated to the United States to start a new chapter in her
life. Upon arrival in New York City she enrolled in a college program, pursuing a major in Chemistry with
the goal of becoming a Nurse. Jasmin later altered her professional focus and started working at the
Dime Savings Bank on Long Island. She progressed in the company and later joined the computer
department as a computer operator. Soon her talent and hard work allowed her to rise to the level of
Supervisor in the data center, responsible for managing the bank’s off-hours data processing.
In 1967 Jasmin met Raymond Cameron and they fell in love and were married. Jasmin and Raymond
made a go of life and in 1974 bought a house in Port Jefferson Station in Suffolk County, Long Island.
The couple had a son Stephen who the Lord gave to them in 1977. Stephen was the absolute apple of
Jasmin’s eye and she loved him unreservedly. The family made a comfortable home in Long Island, she
loved her community; she loved her friends and was a devoted member of her church Cornerstone Bible
Church in Port Jefferson Station. Jasmin and Raymond would remain married for 36 years. After working
at Dime Bank for over 20 years she left that company and took another position at CableVison where
she worked until her retirement.
Throughout her life Jasmin loved and believed in family and worked tireless to assist family members
who required help whether they called on her or not. Another demonstration of Jasmin’s loving nature
was when younger sister Thelma came to live in New York in the early years while she still lived in
Brooklyn and this gave the two sisters an opportunity to forge a even stronger bond of love and
friendship between themselves. It can be said that their bond could be likened to a cheese sandwich,
that once grilled, could never be pulled apart. Jasmin and Thelma’s grill cheese sandwich will remain
melted together for eternity.
In her later years Jasmin continued to be an avid reader but was also smitten by social media when she
learned about and acquired an Instagram account. This became a new pastime for her as she loved to
login and enjoy following posts by family and friends. She also became conversant with computer
tablets and soon acquired a small collection of Kindle Fires on which she would spend time surfing the
Internet, logging into Instagram, reading e-books and playing word games such as Crossword Puzzles
and Jumble Words. Jas was also a very enthusiastic TV viewer and loved to watch old detective shows
such as Perry Mason, Murder She Wrote and Matlock. One of Jasmin’s other passions was baseball and
specifically her beloved team the New York Mets. She supported the Mets wholeheartedly from her
early years in Brooklyn to the very end. She was such a loyal fan that she would sometimes watch reruns
of her favorite old Mets games.
Jasmin was a very Christian woman who read her Bible unfailingly and loved her church. She attended
church services at Cornerstone regularly but then in the later years when her mobility waned she would
tune in on Sunday mornings and watch the services that were being streamed to her tablet.
Jasmin is survived by son Stephen, daughter-in-law Eneida, grandchildren Stephen and Luna, brothers
and sisters – Pat (Ken), Thelma (Will), Maurice (Magaly), Glen (Jennifer), John (Sandra), Jewel, Andrew,
sister-in-law Marjorie, niece Suzette, as well as other nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand
nephews.
While we will miss Jasmin deeply we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, embraced in the
loving arms of our Heavenly Father. Her time on earth has come to an end but her legacy and memories
will live on forever.

In the glow Of a candle’s flame, A gentle warmth, a love untamed. Compassion flickers, steadfast and bright, A beacon of comfort, a guiding light.
Like the flame that dances, fierce yet kind, Power in softness, strength intertwined. Dear Aunt, your spirit, a radiant glow, In the heart’s quiet corners, forever will flow.
With each flicker, a reminder so true, Love and compassion-an endless view. A candle’s embrace, both tender and grand, In the tapestry of life, you lovingly stand..
So I’ll light this candle, let its love show, The warmth of your memory, a constant glow.
In my heart, you’re alive, forever a part, An everlasting fire that fuels my heart.
