JoAnn LaVignera Cossavella
April 10, 1929 – July 2, 2025
JoAnn Cossavella passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at the age of 96. She was born Josephine Ann LaVignera on April 10, 1929 in Corona, New York, a daughter of the late Mary and Frank LaVignera, Italian immigrants from Sicily.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her best friend and beloved husband of 61 years, Alfred J Cossavella, sister Caroline, and brother Anthony. She is survived by her children, William (Barbara) and Janet (Christopher); five grandchildren, James (Carolyn), Danielle (Clayton), Julianne (Bradley), Catherine, and Ryan (Katherine); and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Cora, and Olivia.
JoAnn was fluent in Italian, French, and English. She worked as a legal secretary and was well versed in the art of shorthand. She and Alfred met as next-door neighbors in Corona and after they were married, moved to Albertson, NY, where they raised their children and enjoyed retirement. Alfred was an airplane mechanic, and they loved to plan trips and travel, even with two young children in tow. They were amazing grandparents (Nonna and Poppy) to their five grandchildren who cherish the time they had together. JoAnn loved roasted red peppers and fresh mozzarella cheese, the beach, swimming, sewing, hosting holidays, and spending time with her friends and family. Her life on earth was one marked with love and happiness, and she will be greatly missed by all those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in JoAnn’s memory to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias (NFED) (https://nfed.org/donate/) see link below
